New Information
Over the past months I have been able to track My Grandfather's journey from his capture on 03/05/1917, right through to the time he starts to write his journal in July of 1918. This information has been taken from his Battalion's records, and also from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) web site. You can Copy and paste the following link to see how the website has built up a database of POW camps and prisoners in the 1914-1918 period:

The ICRC records show that James was taken prisoner at Fontaine-les-Croisilles, about 15km south east of Arras in northern France.
From here, he was transported to a Prison Camp In Limburg, which is about 50km North West of Frankfurt in Germany.
Before arriving at Schneidemuhl, James was moved from Limburg to Altdamm in the then German Empire. Altdamm is now the Dabie District of Szczecin on the Baltic coast in the very north west of Poland.
